Karl S. Chambers, Appellant, was convicted of murder of the first degree and robbery, and was sentenced to death. Pursuant to 42 Pa.C.S. ? 9711(h)(1), this direct appeal followed. Immediately following the jurys return of its guilty verdicts, the Honorable Joseph E. Erb, of the Court of Common Pleas of York County, commenced a sentencing hearing in which the same jury found one aggravating circumstance to be present, i.e., that the killing occurred during the commission of a robbery (42 Pa.C.S. ? 9711(d)(6)).
